Fact check: A slowed down video of Tejashwi Yadav goes viral claiming he was drunk

Edited video of Tejashwi Yadav where his speech was slowed down goes viral with the claim that he was drunk while interacting with media. Viral claims are false.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video of RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav being shared on the social media platforms. It was claimed along with the video that Tejashwi Yadav sounded drunk while talking to the media. During the investigation we found that the viral video is intentionally slowed down in pace to make it appear as if Tejashwi Yadav was drunk. The speed of his speech is normal in the original video. Viral claim is false.

Claim:

X user @Gorakhpurwale shared the viral claim along with the video on his profile.

Investigation:

At the beginning of the investigation we noticed that the video was posted on Republic Bharat, through the logo on the video.

We then took a few keyframes from the video and searched using
Google reverse image search.

This led us to several videos of Tejashwi Yadav.

We found the same video posted on The Statesman X handle. The video was captioned that Tejashwi Yadav took a dig at PM Modi on Bihar leader’s cabinet portfolios.

We found the video on several other profiles of news organisations.

We finally found the video posted on the channel of Republic Bharat.

The YouTube short uploaded was that of just 30 seconds while the video being widely shared however was that of 43 seconds, confirming that the pace of the video was slowed.

Conclusion: Edited video of Tejashwi Yadav where his speech was slowed down goes viral with the claim that he was drunk while interacting with media. Viral claims are false.
