Lighthouse Journalism came across a video being widely shared on social media platforms, especially X. The video showed people gathered near a barbed wire fence. It was claimed along with the claim that Bangladeshi Hindus were waiting near India Bangladesh border in Assam. During the investigation we found that the video shared along with the claim was old.

X user Yati Sharma shared the viral video on her profile.

Investigation:
We started our search for the video by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.
We found a video uploaded on YouTube titled: India Bangladesh milan mela.
We found another video uploaded on a YouTube channel named YOUR FRIENDS. The video was titled: India Bangladesh Milan Mela 15 April 2018. মিলন মেলা at India Bangladesh border
The video was uploaded in the year 2018.
During a keyword search we also found a post on X by Assam Police.
The post stated: An old video from April 2018 is being falsely circulated as recent visuals from the India-Bangladesh border in Assam. Action will be taken against those trying to create panic with malafide intentions.
However, we did find a recent video of Hindus in Bangladesh attempting to seek refuge in India.
The X profile of news agency IANS stated that over 300 Bangladeshis gathered at a border point near India’s Jalpaiguri district.
Conclusion: Old video of India Bangladesh milan mela from 2018 is being shared as recent of Bangladeshi Hindus attempting to enter India through Assam border. Viral claim is misleading.
