Purnea MP Pappu Yadav challenged jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi after he claimed the responsibility for killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai. He also claimed that Lawrence Bishnoi is a petty criminal and that he will wipe out the entire gang within 24 hours if the law permits. After his statement, a video where Pappu Yadav went viral where he is seen crying, claiming he was attacked recently. During the investigation we found the video to be old, which has now resurfaced.

Investigation:
We started the investigation by uploading the video in the InVid tool and then running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the same.
We could not find any useful results and hence, we ran a keyword search on YouTube and applied relevant filters.
This led us to a video on the YouTube channel of ABP News. The video was uploaded six years ago and was titled: MP Pappu Yadav says, “I was asked about my caste by the attacker” | ABP News
The visuals in this video were the same as those from the viral video.
We then ran a keyword search on Google and found several news reports from 2018 when Bihar MP Pappu Yadav was attacked during Bharat Bandh in Muzaffarpur.
The reports mentioned: After the attack, Yadav got emotional in front of the media and said, “I have never asked for anyone’s caste. Never did caste politics. But the attackers first asked for my caste and then attacked.”
We also found the same video uploaded by several other YouTube channels.
Conclusion:
Old video of 2018 of Bihar MP Pappu Yadav interacting with media after he was attacked in Muzaffarpur during Bharat Bandh is being shared as recent. The video has resurfaced after Yadav challenged Lawrence Bishnoi gang after they claimed responsibility for Baba Siddique’s death. Viral claim is misleading.
