Lighthouse Journalism came across a video of passengers fighting in a flight. It was claimed in several posts that the video is from Mumbai, and some users even shared the video with communal claims. During the investigation we found that the video is old and from THAI Smile Airways, which ended operations in December 2023.
Claim:
X user @maheshyagyasain shared the video with a misleading claim.
Other users too are sharing the video with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by uploading the video in the InVid tool and then ran a reverse image search on the keywords obtained from the same.
Through this we found a post on X from December 28, 2022.
The post suggested that Indian passengers were fighting on THAI Smile flight.
THAI Smile was a low-cost subsidiary of Thai Airways and it it ended operations in 2023.
We also found news reports about the incident.
According to reports the incident took place on a THAI Smile Airways flight from Bangkok to Kolkata.
According to an ANI report, the Indian Civil Aviation authorities were planning to recommend to the airlines that they put passengers involved in the brawl on a no-fly list.
Conclusion: Old video of a brawl between Indian passengers on THAI Smile Airlines is now being shared with misleading claims. The incident is not recent. Viral claim is misleading.
