Lighthouse Journalism came across a video being widely shared on social media platforms, people in white bandages were walking on the streets. It was being claimed along with the video, that these are the victims of the recent LPG tanker blast on Jaipur highway. During the investigation we found that the video was uploaded on the social media platform a day before the accident. The video is from a procession taken out on account of Diwali in Bundi’s Barodiya.
Claim:
Instagram user, Rohit Yadav Rao shared the video with false claim.
Other users too are sharing the same video.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by uploading the video in the Invid tool and running reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from this.
This only led us to several similar videos uploaded on YouTube. One such video had a watermark, @masum_baccha_08.
We then searched for Instagram account of this person. The user Hanuman Jatwa had uploaded several similar videos.
One video being widely shared was uploaded just 2 days ago.
Whereas the first similar video was uploaded seven days ago.
By the end of these videos, a vehicle is seen, whose registeration number plate began with RJ 08, upon searching we found that the number plate belonged to Bundi in Rajasthan. Also, the videos on this account were clear as compared to the ones being widely shared and were given a location tag from ‘Dei, Bundi’. The video was uploaded on 19th December, 2024.
We then ran a keyword search on Instagram with various keywords in Hindi and English and found a similar video to that of the viral video.
The reel was uploaded on 7th November and the caption said: Mummies spotted on the streets of Barodiya on account of Diwali.
According to news reports the accident occurred near Bhankrota on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway on December 20 in which four people were burned alive on the spot, while eight others died the same day during treatment at SMS Hospital.
The death toll in the accident has now increased to 18.
Lighthouse Journalism also spoke to a senior journalist from Rajasthan Anand Tripathi, who confirmed that the video is not related to the Jaipur accident.
Conclusion: An old unrelated video shared as recent with claim that it was of victims of recent LPG tanker blast on Jaipur highway, the viral claim is misleading. The viral video instead is from a procession taken out on account of Diwali in Barodiya village of Bundi, Rajasthan.
