Fact check: PM Modi did not take a taxi during his recent France visit, viral image is edited

An old, edited image of the car from which PM Narendra Modi exited in Vatican City is being falsely shared as him stepping out of a taxi in France during his recent visit. The viral image is edited and the claim is false.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recently on a three-day visit to France, where he inaugurated the second Indian consulate in the country after the Embassy in Paris. Amidst this visit ,a picture and a claim is being widely circulated on social media platforms.

Picture shows PM Modi getting down a car, the claim states PM Modi had to take a taxi during his recent visit to France. During the investigation we found the claim to be false.

Claim:

X user Sunil VB shared the image with the claim.

Other users too are sharing the image with same claim.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the image.

We found that the same image was widely shared in 2021.

During the reverse image search, we found the viral image uploaded on the  X handle of ANI.

The vehicle’s registration number plate was the same as that of the viral image.

We also found a video about the same on the ANI YouTube channel where the vehicle’s registration number was clearly visible. The video was uploaded three years ago.

Conclusion: An old, edited image of the car from which PM Narendra Modi exited in Vatican City is being falsely shared as him stepping out of a taxi in France during his recent visit. The viral image is edited and the claim is false.
