Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video. This led us to a few news reports. The India Times had posted the video two years ago.
News reports mentioned: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was attacked by a man on Sunday in his hometown Bakhtiyarpur, in a huge security lapse. The man, who was caught on CCTV camera during the attack, has been arrested and currently in police custody, sources said. Calling the incident “unfortunate”, state minister Ashok Chaudhary said, “There was a lapse on part of the people in charge of the Chief Minister’s security. There should be an investigation”.
The news report was published on the website of NDTV on March 27, 2022.
We also found the video reports about the same.
According to reports, the attacker was later sent to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for psychiatric treatment.
Conclusion: The video of a man attacking Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is not recent, but from 2022. The video is also not linked to the recent Waqf Bill amendment or protests. The viral claim is misleading.
