Fact check: Old video from 2020 goes viral as Indian Army’s action against Pak on LoC

Viral video claiming to be recent from Tatapani, Poonch, as the Indian Army’s action on Pakistan at LoC is from 2020. The viral claim is misleading.

On April 22, 2025, at the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists, killing at least 26 people.

Amidst the videos being widely shared on social media platforms, Lighthouse Journalism found a video claimed to be that of the Indian Army’s action against Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC). Some users are also claiming that the firing took place in Poonch’s Tatapani.

During the investigation, we found that the video is from 2020 and not recent.

Claim:

X user Parth IAS shared the video on their profile on April 23, 2025.

Other users are also sharing the video with a similar claim.

Investigation:

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on keyframes obtained from the video after uploading it to the InVid tool.

We found a similar video posted on Facebook in 2021, which confirmed that it was old and not recent.

We also found a video posted by IAF Garud, on 15th April 2020.

We also found a similar video, but from a different angle,e posted on the YouTube channel of Republic Bharat.

We also found a news report about the incident.

Conclusion: Viral video claiming to be recent from Tatapani, Poonch, as the Indian Army’s action on Pakistan at LoC is from 2020. The viral claim is misleading.
