A 50-second video clip of a purported ABP News bulletin was shared online, with users claiming that an opinion poll by the news channel has predicted a victory for the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections scheduled on February 5, 2025.
Claim:
The video shows a female anchor announcing that the “biggest opinion poll” has predicted “a fourth consecutive win for Arvind Kejriwal” and that “AAP will form the government.”
Several AAP-affiliated accounts (archived here, here, and here) shared this video with Hindi captions like: “ABP survey predicts 58 to 60 seats for Aam Aadmi Party, AAP- 58-60 seats, BJP – 10-12 seats, Congress – 0,” and that “nearly 75% women are voting for Kejriwal, the magic is intact, Kejriwal is returning.” Archived versions of similar posts claiming the same can be found here and here.
However, the video is fake. ABP News has not conducted any such opinion poll on the upcoming Delhi elections.
Investigation:
A close look at the video showed that the female voiceover heard in the first few frames does not sync with the lip movements of the anchor seen in the video, indicating that a separate audio has been added.
A reverse image search along with keywords on Google led us to the original video on ABP News’ YouTube channel (archived here), uploaded on January 28, 2025. The video featured the same anchor, whom we were able to identify as ABP News’ Pooja Sachdeva (archived here). We can also see an identical backdrop featuring AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and BJP National President JP Nadda.
We noted that the first two seconds of the original video align with the now-viral video. However, the rest of the bulletin report appears to have been edited to add a fabricated news bulletin using the news channel’s template.
The original video shows Sachdeva talking about Gandhi’s rallies as part of Congress’ election campaign in Delhi and does not mention an opinion poll predicting victory for the AAP. We also noted that Sachdeva’s voice does not match the female voiceover heard in the now-viral video.
We went through the recent videos uploaded on ABP News’ YouTube channel, which Sachdeva anchored in the run-up to the Delhi elections, but found no report on an opinion poll.
Furthermore, on its official X account, ABP News called the viral video fake (archived here). The channel’s clarification included a screenshot of one of the viral posts and stated, “#FakeNewsAlert | A fake video is being circulated on social media in the name of ABP News. No such opinion poll has been conducted by ABP News. You are requested to avoid fake news and trust only our social media accounts for correct news (roughly translated from Hindi).”
Conclusion: An edited video of an ABP News broadcast has been shared with the false claim that an opinion poll conducted by the news channel has predicted victory for AAP in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. ABP also clarified that the video is fake, and the channel has not conducted any such opinion poll.
