Lighthouse Journalism came across an image of a poster of Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra being shared widely on X. The picture and the poster carried the message in Marathi, ‘Vote for BJP grand alliance for progress of Gujarat’. During the investigation we found the image to be edited.
Claim:
X user @girija333 shared the image on social media profile.
Other users too are sharing the image with the same claim.
Investigation:
We copied the text on the poster and then started investigation with Google keyword search. The text on poster was: भाजप-महायुती आहे तर गती आहे गुजरातची प्रगती आहे
The original text as found on the posters shared by Maharashtra deputy CM was: भाजपा – महायुती आहे तर गती आहे, महाराष्ट्राची प्रगती आहे
We also analyzed the image using InVid tool’s image forensic.
Through the ‘traces’ filter, we analyzed the edits made in the poster. The poster was specifically edited where the text was placed.
Conclusion: Poster of Mahayuti alliance asking to vote for progress of Gujarat shared on social media is edited. Viral claim is false.
