Lighthouse Journalism came across a black and white video of the first Prime Minister of the independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru. In the video he was seen saying right at the beginning that he was not involved in the fight for independence at all. During the investigation, Lighthouse Journalism found the video to be edited. Jawaharlal Nehru did not say he was not involved in the fight for independence.

Investigation:
During the Google reverse image search on the keyframes from the video, we found a post by X user Rishi Bagree who had shared the same video but not from the beginning. The video had the watermark of Doordarshan Archives.
We then also ran a reverse image search on the keyframes from this video and found the video posted on the YouTube channel of Prasar Bharati Archives.
The video was titled: Jawaharlal Nehru’s last TV interview – May 1964
The description of the video said: Full video recording of what was perhaps Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s last significant interview to American TV Host Arnold MichJawaharlal Nehru’s last TV Interview – May 1964e his death. Another book by Chandrika Prasad provides a date of 18th May 1964 when the interview was aired in New York, this is barely a few days before the death of Pandit Nehru on 27th May 1964.
We also found a short video on the same YouTube channel.
Here Jawaharlal Nehru was talking about Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Nehru said, “Mr Jinnah was not involved in the fight for independence, at all. Infact he opposed it.”
Conclusion: Late former Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru did not say that he was not involved in the fight for independence, he was instead talking about Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Viral video is edited.
