Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra’s 21st Chief Minister on December 5 after the victory of Mahayuti Alliance. Following this a video is being shared on social media platforms, that shoes a diferently-abled girl applying tilak on his forehead. Users claim that the video is recent. During investigation we found that the video is old and is being shared with misleading claim.
Claim:
X user @NaMo_Bharathan shared the video on his profile with misleading claim.
Other users too are sharing the video with same claim.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by downloading the video and running it through InVid tool.
We ran a reverse image search on the screenshots obtained from the video.
We found this video uploaded as a reel on Facebook a year ago.
We also found this on X handle of Free Press Journal uploaded on June 28, 2023.
We found one screenshot used with an article on several websites. The articles were published in June 2023.
The reports stated: Maharashtra Deputy CM and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis recently visited Deepstambh Foundation’s initiative for divyangs “Manobal” in Jalgaon. The BJP leader took to social media to share pictures and details of his visit to “Manobal” where he met specially-abled children. In the pictures, Fadnavis can be seen interacting and spending time with the differently-abled children at Deepstambh Foundation’s “Manobal”. In one of the pictures, a different-abled girl can be seen putting a “tilak” on Fadnavis’ forehead. The picture has now gone viral on social media.
The video was also shared by CM Devendra Fadnavis on his X handle.
Conclusion: Old video from 2023 of Devendra Fadnavis’s visit to Deepstambh Foundation where he met specially-abled kids is now going viral as recent. The viral claim is misleading.
