Old video of Nitish Kumar giving a media interview demanding special status for Bihar is old. Viral claims are misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism came across a video being shared on social media platforms. He was heard saying that this is a fight for Bihar’s right. The users claimed that Nitish Kumar hosted a march to demand special status for the state of Bihar. Users claimed that the video was recent. During the investigation we found that the viral video is old, and is being shared with misleading claims.

X user ShivRaj Yadav shared the video with a misleading claim.

Investigation:

In the video, Nitish Kumar is seen saying Seemandhra (the residual state of Andhra Pradesh after the creation of Telangana in 2014) was granted special status within 24 hours with BJP support, with a state like Bihar being ignored.

We checked if there were news reports about this being recent.

The logo of ABP News could be seen clearly on the video, suggesting that the video was from ABP News.

We then ran a keyword search on YouTube, “Nitish Kumar ABP News walks for special statehood of Bihar”.

This led us to a video uploaded on the YouTube channel of ABP News.

The video was titled: Nitish Kumar marches to Gandhi Maidan demanding ‘special status’ to Bihar

The video was uploaded ten years ago. on March 2, 2014.

We also found news reports about the same.

The report mentioned: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is sitting on a dharna at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan demanding special status for the state.

The report mentioned: Kumar, called for a state-wide shutdown, demanding special status for the state after the central government granted a special category to the newly formed state of Seemandhra.
