Lighthouse Journalism found an image of Union Minister Smriti Irani being shared widely on social media platforms. The picture showed Smriti Irani dressed in a belly dancing outfit. After investigation the picture was found to be edited. The real image does not contain the picture of the Indian politician Smriti Irani. Viral image is fake.
Claim:
Facebook user Bablu Upa shared the edited picture on his profile. The picture had 6.5K shares.
Other users too are sharing the same edited image.
Investigation:
We started our investigation by a simple Google reverse image search. On closely looking at the picture we realised that a filter was applied to the picture to make it look like an old photo.
We found the original picture on the website of Tripadvisor.
The caption of the picture said: Belly Dancer on the Turkish BBQ night.
During the investigation we realised that the picture was shared in the past too.
The same picture was shared in the year 2022.
Conclusion: Picture of Smriti Irani in the belly dancer outfit is edited. The woman in the original picture is different. Viral picture is fake.
