With over 110 arrests in Nagpur violence that happened on 17th March and the High Court stay on bulldozer action of the chief accused Fahim Khan’s house, several videos are being widely shared on several social media platforms.
One such video shows police officials beating civilians. It was claimed along with the video that those who went to offer Namaz were beaten by Nagpur police. During investigation we found the video to be old and not from Nagpur.
Claim:
X user Thanos_Pandit shared the video on X with misleading information.
Other users too are sharing the video with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video. This led us to a video uploaded on Facebook two years ago.
This confirmed that the video is not recent.
We also found the video on the YouTube channel Maktoob
The video was uploaded on April 13, 2022.
The caption said: Visuals of police personnel attacking Muslims have been shared with Maktoob from Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone. Critics complain that police are torturing Muslims following Ram Navami celebrations that turned violent.
We also found the visuals on the YouTube channel of MP Tak. The video was uploaded two years ago.
We also found news reports from Khargone violence in the year 2022.
