Lighthouse Journalism found a video being shared, especially on X (formerly Twitter) of passengers pushing a train on the station. It was claimed that passengers are pushing the train in order to start it. During the investigation we found the claim to be misleading. The passengers were pushing the train in order to save it from fire.

X user Atul Singh Shanu shared the viral video on his profile.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.

We found the viral video posted in the form of a reel on an Instagram page, ‘Wirally’.

The text on the reel mentioned, ‘Passengers push train to separate it from burning bogies to avert a fire incident in Bihar’.

We also found a report on the Republic World website.

The report mentioned: A viral video has surfaced on social media that showcases how passengers are pushing a train on a railway track. The viral video is said to be from Bihar’s Kiul railway station where passengers pushed the entire train away from a rail coach which had caught fire.

We also found the reel posted by CNBC Awaaz.

We also found a news report on the Times Now website. The news story was uploaded on 6th June.

The report mentioned: In an extraordinary display of community spirit, passengers at Kiul Junction in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district were seen pushing a train coach to safety after a fire broke out on the Patna-Jharkhand passenger train on Thursday, 6th June.
