Lighthouse Journalism came across a video in which a huge crowd was seen. The video was titled as Marine Drive, Mumbai. However, the caption mentioned that the crowd gathered belonged to a particular community. During the investigation we found that the video was not recent and showed the crowd during the T20 victory parade of the Indian cricket team.

Claim:

X user Jannat Jahaan shared the video with a misleading claim.

Other users too are sharing the video with similar claims.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.

The reverse image search suggested that the video indeed was from Marine Drive, Mumbai. We found the screenshots in a news report on news18 marathi.

The report suggested that the visuals were from the victory parade held in Mumbai, after team India won the T20 world cup.

We also found the video on several social media handles, uploaded in the month of July this year.

A similar video was also found on the X handle of Mumbai Indians.

The viral video had a watermark with an Instagram logo, ‘PoojaShukla3698’. We checked this account on Instagram and found that the account had uploaded the video on July 4. During the same time as the victory parade, the video was not uploaded recently.

However, we did spot some comments in the comment section that were just a day old on the reel, similar to the misleading claim being shared along with the viral video.

Conclusion: Old video from Marine Drive of victory parade after team India won the T20 cricket world cup is being shared as recent with misleading claims. The video does not show a crowd belonging to one particular community.
