Stand-up comic Samay Raina’s shows in India have been canceled after the recent episode of India’s Got Latent landed in trouble. Amidst the controversy, a video of Samay Raina is being widely shared on social media platforms.
In the video, Samay asks people not to record and then says, “Whatever I spoke for last one hour, I am not that kind of a man. This is not a cover-up, I am trying to tell you something. I could have left. But I would like to break the facade for you. We write jokes to make you laugh. There is no meaning to it. This is a game, these are cheat codes. My grandfather is alive.” During the investigation, we found the video to be old.

The text on the video said: Samay Reply on Recent Controversy
The same video was being shared on other social media handles too, with a similar claim.
Investigation:
We ran a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video, but all we could get was a similar video being shared with the viral claim.
This led us to check the comment section of all the videos being uploaded on the social media platforms. Several users commented that the video was old and not recent after the controversy.
We found one such video, on the Instagram handle ‘Viral in India’.
One social media user Raj Parmar had commented on the video, saying he had taken the video in December 2024 in Ahmedabad.
It was hence sure that the video was publicly available. We then checked the YouTube channel of Raj Parmar and found the video uploaded by him.
The video had 22K likes and over 5 lakh views. The video was uploaded on February 15, 2025. The user had also used a hashtag, Ahmedabad.
We then contacted Raj Parmar through Instagram and he confirmed that the video was taken by him, in December 2024 during the Ahmedabad show.
However, we did find a news report on livemint.com, that mentioned Samay Raina had addressed the recent Ranveer Allahbadia controversy during his live show at the Myer Horowitz Theatre in Edmonton, Canada, expressing personal struggles.
Conclusion: An old video from Samay Raina’s show in Ahmedabad in December 2024, goes viral as recent related to the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy. The viral claim is misleading.
