Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms with claims that a man rescued three kidnapped girls in New Delhi.
The Claim stated that certain people running fake job placement agencies target young girls, promising foreign jobs and then exploiting them. A ‘civilized young man’ reportedly rescued three girls from a house, showing their condition. Share this video to warn others, especially girls influenced by Western culture.
During the investigation we found that the video was scripted and was being circulated as if it was a real incident that happened in New Delhi.
Claim:
X user Monk Bharath shared the video with the viral claim.
Other users too are sharing the video with similar claim, some in Marathi.
Investigation:
At the beginning of the videos, a disclaimer can be seen, which mentions that the videos are meant for entertainment purposes.
We uploaded the video in the InVid tool and ran a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the same. This led us to the video uploaded on YouTube.
The video had 2.3 million views and was uploaded a year ago.
We checked the profile and found that there were several such videos on his YouTube profile.
We also found the Instagram handle of Naveen Jangra.
The viral video was uploaded on his Instagram profile on April 13, 2023 without any caption.
Conclusion: A scripted video created for entertainment purposes by a video creator has been falsely shared with claims that it depicts a real incident in New Delhi. The viral claim is misleading.
