Lighthouse Journalism found a 25-second video being shared on social media platforms, where a teacher was seen beating a student. Indian social media users thinking that this is a video from India, tagged the Uttar Pradesh police too. During the investigation, we found that the video is not from India but from Tunisia.
Claim:
X user Rana Sujeet Singh shared the video with the viral claim.
Other users too are sharing the video with the same claim.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by uploading the video to the InVid tool and extracted screengrabs from the video.
We then ran a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.
We found the screengrab on an Arabic news website.

The report stated: A citizen residing in Sousse confirmed that a young child (10) was subjected to severe violence by his teacher in class and in front of his peers at an elementary school in the Tifala region of Sousse.
We also found the story posted on tunisnow.tn

The report said: Social media users circulated a shocking video of a teacher violently assaulting one of his students at Khair Eddine Pasha School in Sousse.
Sousse is a city in Tunisia, this confirmed that the video is not from India but from Tunisia. According to reports the incident took place in 2021.
Conclusion: An old video from Tunisia of a teacher beating a student in the classroom is being widely shared as recent from India. The viral claim is misleading.
